Assessment
As an engineer with over 15 years experience, Tom Batroney, P.E. decided to put HIS actual money into a severely deteriorating sidewalk and actually practice what you preach.” After receiving quotes to have his sidewalk removed and replaced with concrete in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tom decided to take matters into his own hands, literally.
Solution
Western Pennsylvania representative Anne Duggan of Kevcon, Inc. knew Tom from previous meetings and discussed a game plan for Tom to install the PaveDrain system on his 200 square foot sidewalk. Tom stated that once the old concrete was ripped out, she installed a permeable geotextile and 6" of open graded rock, and compacted it into place. Anne delivered and unloaded the three pallets of PaveDrain and within a few hours it was all in! Nothing to it! She even sealed it after it was installed.
Results
Tom said, “We used to have water ponding problems on this sidewalk which led to a premature deterioration. But not any more. The water just goes right through the PaveDrain and into the base. No frost heave at all. After 3 years, only real maintenance has been sucking out some debris with a shop vac a couple of places.”
